For Students

The Library

Sheringham HS_ (7)

The SHS Library is a vibrant and welcoming space for both learning and leisure. It is home to a wide range of books, from fiction and non-fiction for pleasure to resources that support students across the curriculum.

Students can also use the Library computers during lessons and at break times. Alongside our resources, we have a dedicated Librarian, a team of friendly and helpful Library Monitors, and a varied programme of activities for students to enjoy.

Previous Ofsted inspectors have praised the Library and its resources as ‘excellent’, describing our Reading Challenge as ‘a model of its kind’.

The Library is at the Heart of the School

The Library is much more than a place to borrow books. It is a welcoming space where students can:

  • meet and spend time with friends
  • find help and support with homework
  • discover resources to support their learning
  • get recommendations for their next great read
  • take part in activities such as chess and board games
  • explore creative writing
  • contribute to the Library community by becoming a Library Monitor

Whether students are looking for a quiet place to read, somewhere to study, or an opportunity to try something new, there is always something happening in the Library.

What Goes on in the Library?

The Library is a busy and well-used learning space throughout the school day.

Teachers regularly bring classes into the Library to make use of its books, computers and other resources. All Key Stage 3 students have a fortnightly English lesson in the Library, giving them dedicated time to choose and enjoy a book of their own.

The Library can also be booked by teachers as a flexible teaching space. With computers, an interactive board and a wide range of curriculum-related books, it provides an ideal environment for different types of learning.

Authors, Writers and Special Events

We have been fortunate to welcome a number of authors to the Library over the years, giving students the opportunity to meet writers, hear about their work and discover more about the world of books.

We also enjoy virtual author visits, including regular visits from award-winning author Tom Palmer, helping us bring the world of literature directly into the Library.

The SHS Library is a place to read, learn, discover, create and share — with something for everyone.
