Peer Mentors

Sheringham HS_ (81)

The peer mentors are students who have been trained to support others to manage problems they might encounter at school.

The training they have undertaken equips them with the necessary skills to listen and advise other students and to support them to seek advice from relevant members of staff. The peer mentors meet regularly with Mrs Hollidge and Mrs Ransome.

Peer Mentors play a very active role in helping students in Year 7 to settle in to the School. They act as guides on transition days and befriend any student who feels out of his or her depth in the new environment. They liaise with Student Managers and our transition coordinators who sometimes ask them to support individual students in Year 7. They also support within Year 7 tutor groups and at break and lunchtimes to promote positive relationships within our school and indeed beyond.

Peer Mentors take their role very seriously and understand the need to share their concerns about other students with members of staff as appropriate. Students and staff recognise the work they do and call upon their expertise to work with students who are unhappy. They play a very valuable role within our student support structure and we recognise how important it is for some students to share their anxieties with someone of their own age.

Any student can meet up with a Peer Mentor to seek advice and support; there is a table in the library which is manned by 2 Peer Mentors each break and lunchtime and students can also request to speak to a peer mentor by asking a Student Managers to arrange this.

Our Schools

Synergy Multi-Academy Trust comprises fifteen Norfolk schools serving children between the ages of 2 and 18. Our schools work collaboratively together to raise standards and provide education of the highest possible standard, offering the best of opportunities for pupils. The Trust was initially established in 2015. We believe that all of our schools have strengths and areas to develop, and that all can improve through sharing expertise and wisdom. The Trust understands that there will be excellent practice in each school, and that every school will be able to contribute to the development of the Trust as a whole.
